We believe inmaking flavoursome & wholesome food. We love to bake and food is the heart of our business. The local community is at the heart of our business and we use some of the best local produce and ingredients that we can find. We bake our food fresh without additives or preservatives and make all our food from cakes to bread. We also are part of the Real Bread Campaign.
Opened in December 2018, Elsie May’s Electric Lounge is a family-run café and bar, named after the owner’s grandmother, Elsie May, who always dreamt of having her own tea room one day.
The building was built in 1927 and opened in 1929 as the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Huntingdonshire Electricity Company Showroom.
This building was designed to show off the wonders of electricity and to try to convince people that gas powered lamps were a thing of the past. We believe this is why BC & HE Co. made a statement with this building with high ceilings, oak parquet floors and large windows which we have tried our best to restore and bring back to life for everyone to enjoy. Since then, the building has been a job centre, nightclub and an amusement arcade.
As independent business, we make food and drink for the local community using local suppliers.
Some of our suppliers include:
- Wooden Hill Coffee Company
- Nothing But Tea
- Wood View Farm
- Folbigg Farm
- Gilberts of Great Staughton
Since opening in December 2018, we’ve been very privileged to win a number of awards including:
- Best Local Cafe & Bar (Cambridgeshire) in Lux Life’s Restaurant & Bar Awards
- Café & Bar of the Year 2020 (Cambridgeshire) in the Cambridgeshire Prestige Awards
- A Good Food Award winner for 2021
We care a lot about our planet and try to be as environmentally friendly as possible. We use ethical & local suppliers to help reduce our carbon footprint, recycle products and food waste. We are doing everything we can to reduce our use of single use plastics and are working with our suppliers to improve this.
